How to get rid of Ankle pain

Ankles defend the weight of our body and are one of the most susceptible organs. Among all joint injuries, this one is more frequent and common. Most people get this disease at some point in their lives. Ankle Pain can occur anywhere within the foot including toes, ankle or arch .Pain occur due to a number of reasons such as old age, excessive walking, wearing uncomfortable shoes, some kind of fracture, a mineral deficiency, ingrown toenails, and diabetes or alternative health conditions. Types of ankle pain:

Ankle pain refers to any kind of pain or uneasiness affecting any part of the ankle. There are two types of acute pain.

Acute ankle pain:

This pain is most commonly known as sprained ankle. Generally, athletes or sports persons suffer from this type of ankle pain. In this type ankle twists which further causes can damage to the ligaments and also damage tissue surrounding the ankle joint. This type of ankle pain easily heal within one week by giving some rest to the foot.

Chronic ankle pain:

This is long term foot complaint. You can experience pain either inside the ankle (medial ankle pain) or on the outside the ankle (lateral ankle pain). Medial ankle pain may cause by the stress on the nerves and tendons around the ankle region. This pain caused by too much exercise and get worse with activity such as walking, running and sports. Lateral ankle pain caused by compression of the soft tissue that is tendons and ligaments it may also worse during walking, running and exercise.

Causes of ankle pain:

Strains and sprains:

This is the most common form of ankle complaint. Strains occur when a muscle or tendon is overstretched or tears. And sprain occurs when muscle are overstretched in ligaments. Both are arisen due to twisting your ankle.

Fractures:

Fractures means complete breakage of bones. The fracture can be from minor damage to severe damage. This is also known as broken ankle which means one or more of the bones that the ankle joint consist is broken.

Tendonitis:

Problem arises due to acute tendon injury or degenerative tendinosis. Causes of a tendonitis are because of an overuse, abnormal foot structure, injury and medical conditions.You can observe two different type of Tendonitis that is personal tendonitis and Posterior Tibial Tendonitis. Peroneal Tendonitis commonly complains of pain around the back and outside their foot. While Posterior Tibial Tendonitis, generally complains about the pain inside ankle.

Gout:

Gout is caused by too much uric acid in the blood. It can create a sudden burning pain, swelling in a joint and stiffness. If it is not treated on time it may harm your joints, tendons, and other tissues if it is not treated.

Cartilage Damage:

Patients with Cartilage Damage may suffer from stiffness, inflammation and limit the range of movement.

Home remedies to get rid of ankle pain: 

Cure sprained ankle: 

Icing:

Icing

Ice is useful to remove swelling, inflammation and pain and ankle will respond better to the alternating cold and hot therapy. Ice should be applied over the affected area for the first 48 to 72 hours after the injury.

How to use:

Wrap about a cup of ice cubes in a towel and apply over your affected area for 15-20 minutes. Repeat the process every two to three hours. Keep in mind don’t apply ice directly to your skin as it may cause damage to your skin.

Things to keep in mind:
If you are diabetic consult your doctor before applying ice.
If your ankle starts turning white remove the ice as it may cause cold injury.

Garlic:

Garlic

This ingredient has a strong smell and nobody likes this ingredient but do you know it is very effective to improve your skin. Garlic has anti-inflammatory properties which can help to reduce pain as well as inflammation. It is helpful to speed up the healing process.

How to use it:

Mix one tablespoon of garlic juice plus two tablespoons of warm coconut oil. Apply this prepared mixture over the affected area. Leave it for half an hour before rinsing it with lukewarm water. You can use this remedy 4-5 times a day for several days.

Cabbage:

Cabbage has vitamins and minerals and has anti-inflammatory properties which are beneficial for treating simple sprains. It has same properties like Garlic and moreover  good to speed up the healing process.

How to use it:
Remove the outer layer leaves from a cabbage. Then wrap the cabbage leaves in foil and then warm it in the oven. Put the warm leave over your affected area and secure it with a bandage. Take a plastic wrap and cover the entire area with it. Leave it for half an hour Follow this remedy twice in a day.

Turmeric:

Turmeric not only gives flavor and coloring to your food but also helps to cure sprained muscles and inflamed joints. It is used to cure ankle pain of ancient years and is very effective and gives positive results.

How to use it:

Take a bowl and mix two tablespoons of turmeric powder with one tablespoon of lime juice and a little bit of warm water to make a paste Apply this mixture over your affected ankle and secure it with a bandage. Leave it for 10 hours and then repeat again for another 10 hours continue this treatment for a week. In the case of immense pain add one teaspoon of turmeric powder to a glass of warm milk. Drink this glass of milk twice daily for a week.

Onion:

Being anti-inflammatory in nature means it is good for your sprained ankles by decreasing the pain. Onion helps to reduce pain, inflammation, and swellings.

How to use it:
Take a large size onion and put it in a refrigerator for 2 hours. Afterward, cut it into small pieces and mix a spoon full of salt. Mix them properly and then place this mixture on the injured ankle and secure or seal it with a plastic bandage. After 8 hours, replace this mixture with a fresh one.

Cure sprained ankle: 

Aloe Vera:

Aloe-Vera

Aloe vera has excellent healing properties and also useful for your skin. If you love sports, then surely your ankle got injured again and again so to avoid this problem use aloe vera.

How to use it:

Take an aloe vera leaf and extract its gel. Now take a cotton ball and soak in this gel and place it on the affected area. Allow it to dry. You can also add Glycerin to make it thick.

Arnica:

Arnica

Arnica mostly recommended by homeopathy doctors for healing and strengthening muscles and joints. It has anti-inflammatory properties that help to reduce inflammation, pain, and swelling. One more benefit of arnica is it increases circulation and helps to stop bruising in the injured area.

How to use it:

Arnica easily available in medical stores, buy this oil and apply over your affected ankle. Apply bandage over it and leave it for 5 hours, Do this for a few days until your ankle is completely healed.

The thing to keep in mind:
Few people are sensitive to arnica so before applying this over your skin try a patch test to get an idea.

Wintergreen Essential Oil Soak:

This oil is known by very rare people but it is highly potent essential oil for reducing swelling of your ankles and feet. Along with its pain relieving properties, it is also helpful to cure muscle pain or headaches like problems.

How to use it:

Fill a bath tub with water and so add 2 or 3 drops of wintergreen essential oil to it. Wintergreen oil is strong therefore 2-3 drops are enough for you. Soak your feet for 10 minutes, or as long as the water stays warm. Repeat this mixture 2 or 3 times daily for best results. You can also add other type of essential oils such as peppermint, lavender, geranium and cypress that are up to 5-8 drops.

Lemongrass Oil:

Lemongrass essential Oil loaded with antiseptic, anti-bacterial, astringent and fungicidal properties that relieve the pain in joints and muscles.

How to use it:

Take one part of lemongrass oil and four parts of olive oil. Mix them properly and apply over your infected area and massage it properly. Do this process thrice a day.

Few Do’s and Don’ts:

Avoid actions that cause inflammation, soreness and uneasiness.

Gently stretch your ligaments. Don’t lift heavy weights.
Elevate your legs above chest or give support whenever possible.
Take a foot massage to regulate the blood flow. Don’t consume caffeine and salt.
Take complete rest. Don’t eat cold food or cold drinks as they may slow down the healing process.
